Craig Race Architecture is dedicated to a personalized approach spanning from conception to completion. We are often the first consultant you will hire, and the last friends to leave your housewarming party. Our firm is based in Toronto, and we have executed projects across Ontario.

In addition to being principal of his eponymous architecture firm, Craig is a founder of the housing company Lanescape, a founder of the Leslieville Residents’ Association, an educator, and an advocate for sustainable housing.

our process

- Introduction and Proposal

Every project begins with a phone call. We want to introduce ourselves and get to know you and your project. If it sounds like we will be a good fit, we meet you and your family on site to take a tour of the property and exchange ideas. Finally, we will send you a proposal with a scope of work, fee structure, timeline, and referrals. This is free of charge, and there is no obligation.

- Design

We always start with learning. We research and analyze the context and history of your site, the needs of your family, and the requirements of the municipality. Based on those inputs, we will guide you through an iterative design process that creates a sustainable, cost / time efficient, and beautiful solution. We seek to produce original, exciting design ideas that will challenge and excite you.

- Approvals

Although we are leaders in acquiring approvals for progressive projects that push the limits of zoning bylaws and building codes, less is more when it comes to bureaucratic process. Our designs seek to minimize your need for zoning variances, except when absolutely necessary. When variances are needed, our process assists you in bolstering support from neighbours, politicians, and municipal officials to optimize your likelihood of success.

- Construction

We are experienced architects, but we are also experienced clients. After developing many of our own projects, we have become all-too familiar with the pitfalls of construction. Relying on us to manage the complex building process and adapt to unforeseen site conditions will save you a significant amount of time, cost, and stress, and ensure the investment you made in design and approvals is executed properly.
